Palm to offer 3 flavors of operating systems

In his Investor Day keynote today, Ed Colligan, President and CEO of Palm, announced their own Linux-based OS (not the ACCESS Linux Platform [ALP]) will be available by the end of the year. Windows will continue to be supported, and the Palm Garnet 5.4 OS will run on top of a Linux kernel. Palm intends to make a variety of devices to support these operating systems.

With the Linux-based OS, they will be using Opera as the browser and the recently acquired Chattermail for messaging.

It will be interesting to see if this makes Palm a more attractive takeover by Motorola.
