I'm looking forward to receiving my copy of the recently released Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9 speech recognition software from Nuance. (It's now backordered due to the overwhelming demand, or so they tell me.)
While I plan to try it out on my PC with its P4 2.4 GHz processor and 1/2 GB of RAM, I'm looking for a laptop that will keep me going for the next year or so.
I've been searching through the "phorum" at KnowBrainer for some sort of workable solution. Right now, the consensus points to a dual core processor laptop with 2 GB of RAM. In the case of the Dell laptops, it seems that when used with an external USB sound card pod, the Latitude 620 works well. The are some higher priced laptops, specially setup to handle speech recognition, as with the SpeakEasy laptops. Starting at $2400, I don't know if there is an appreciable increase in speed or accuracy to justify the cost.
I've been receiving some feedback from people who have a long history using speech recognition software, and from this will try to summarize what seems to be the best bet for hardware.
