This morning Fred Thompson, my good friend and colleague of many years, made it known that he has slow-growing marginal zone lymphoma - a disease that has never made him physically ill and for which he has a good prognosis, according to his doctor.
It's always good to get the specifics about any news story, and in this case, it probably not appropriate to put Thompson's diagnosis only under the rubric of "cancer."

Update: The AP reports,"Thompson's physician, Dr. Bruce Cheson, hematology chief at Georgetown University Hospital, said the prognosis is good." He also said the Thompson had been treated with rituximab.
