Novartis Says Blood-Pressure Drugs Are Shown Safe, Effective in Studies
From the WSJ online (behind the cash wall):
Swiss drug maker Novartis AG said two experimental heart drugs, Rasilez and Exforge, were shown to be both effective and safe in late-stage studies.
Basel-based Novartis said Rasilez, which represents a new way to treat hypertension, provides significant and sustained blood-pressure reduction over a 24-hour period. The drug has also shown tolerability similar to a placebo, or dummy pill, in several trials, the company said. Earlier this year, Novartis presented data that demonstrated the drug's effectiveness, but analysts had been keenly awaiting details on the drug's safety and its ability to lower blood pressure over a sustained period of time.
