Palm offers 700p deals for Treo users

For those who own a Palm handheld or smart phone, you will receive a free 1 GB SD card when you purchase a Treo 700p by June 11th.

If you're upgrading from a Treo 650, you're eligible for a $150 rebate. You have to send your phone to Palm, and they'll check to see if it's in working condition. It might be a better bet to put the Treo 650 on Ebay once you receive your new 700p.

MobiVoip for Treo 700p

VoIP and Gadgets Blog is reporting on MantraGroup's mobiVoIP service which provides VoIP for Palm OS smart phones (via Wi-Fi for the Treo 650, and EvDO for the 700p).

I'd like to hear Andy Abramson's take on this.

NYT's David Pogue on the Treo 700p

"This is the one smart phone that you can really get enthusiastic about."

I don't know how long this link the David's NYTimes piece will be active, but it' also worthwhile to check out the associated video. He shows a close-up of what it's like to use the Blazer browser at EvDO speeds.

Long story short--it's much better than the Windows 700w because of the better screen resolution and the Palm OS. Seems even the Palm OS can run Office smart phone programs better than the Windows Mobile programs.

The video shows him using the Treo 700p as a wireless, Bluetooth modem for his laptop. I think this is the killer app for this device now, and it will generate the strongest word of mouth advertising for this smart phone.

Verizon Wireless offers Treo 700p

Via TreoCentral, Verizon Wireless will offer the Treo 700p for $400 with a new 2-year contract (same as Sprint, but Sprint's data plans are better).

TreoCentral tests a pre-production Treo 700p

Marcus Adolfsson, one of the creators of TreoCentral, is testing a pre-production model of the Treo 700p with a Sprint account, and he's fielding questions on this thread.

So far, he's been able to stream XM satellite radio, and use DUN with his laptop via Bluetooth.

Imaging Service Unveiled For Treo Smartphones

By way of TechWeb, scanR will enable camera phones (in this case the Treo 700p), to recognize text written on a white board, and then convert it into a PDF file.

The  scanR service employs image processing technology to overcome low lighting, shadows, blurring and other imaging challenges to provide a clear scan, said scanR.
