Bacon prep aka "lardons"

This prep for a recipe looked so good, I decided to honor it in its raw state.

It's much easier to manage bacon when it's cut into "lardons."

I have to admit that photographing cooked bacon is a little trickier, but I'll get around to it.

I'm updating, revising, editing my online photo portfolio on Pbase.

Most of the images are of food, either prepared, fresh or still growing. Almost all the images have been scaled down to a maximum of 1280 pixels on the longest dimension. Pbase also compresses unless you're looking at the size marked "original" (which is not the original, but the full size of the scaled-down image I uploaded).

Once I look over this work, I'll probably have a clearer idea of what I want to shoot in the near future. So, everything I have up there now is bound to change.

Shows for foodies on Hulu

I started off watching the "Slow Food - Australia" episode of the "Gourmet's Diary of a Foodie" series, but eventually I found a number of full episode, food-related shows including Molto Mario, Ann Burrell's Secrets of a Restaurant Chef, Flay's Throwdown, After Hours with Daniel Boulud, Made in Spain with Jose Andres (he does some traditional tapas besides the molecular gastronomy shtick), and others.

Here's the blurb about the "Diary of a Foodie":

Food Network, why is your pasta so blue?

The top photo is the Food Network's view of their Tagliatelle with Corn and Cherry Tomatoes recipe. I'm not sure what the blue cast is doing for this image. I'm assuming they were using a white plate, if so the cast is quite noticeable. It increases the overall contrast at the detriment of the warm colors of the corn, tomatoes and pasta. See how the pasta in the top photo looks gray.

I could see if this were part of a scene where the plates were on a table in open shade with a bright, sunlight lit background. Here I don't understand the reason for the blue.

UPDATE: Another photo of the same dish at the recipe page is way too red, not to mention the creepy background.

Its the kind that Cuisinarts you up inside

Hard to come away with anything that feels

Like a decent risotto

Hard to get home with any pride

These days a man makes a lamb chop

But, the starch is under cooked

There is no hiding on the plate

Respectable little junk food sponsors pay

They get more respectable every day

Dont worry girl, the Unwrapped re-runs aren't forever

And someday soon were gonna get in Guy's

Car and get outta here

Maybe well leave come springtime

Meanwhile, have another beer

What would we do without all these recipes with bacon

Anyway?
